On October 12th 2007 The Museum of Contextual Amputations mysteriously stopped loading. On further investigation it was found that the .php pages in the site had been overwritten by a short repeating code. We attempted to upload a backup of the site but it caused server errors.

Was this the final intervention? Had someone erased the Museum? After all, that was the fourth tenet of the project - Erasure/ Removal. The Shifter team is trying to track down the culprit - The Columbus Day Marauder - while simultaneously considering how to act next.

If you are the mysterious culprit, please dont keep it a secret. Let us know so that you can be added to the list of contributors to this project and perhaps you can help us reconstruct it. If you have any leads, please email us or give us suggestions on how to proceed: shiftermail@gmail.com

The Museum of Contextual Amputations opened on June 18th 2006 with these aims:

This online Museum showcases objects, images and texts that specifically employ the following strategies:

1 Lies/ Deceit
2 Plagiarism
3 Embellishment/ Extension
4 Erasure/ Removal
5 De-contextualization and Re-contextualization
6 Myth and Fiction

This is an Open Source Museum and can be fully edited, embellished upon, reordered, or erased by all users. This will lead to a constantly changing space of discussion and confrontation. As a visitor to the Museum you are invited to make contributions to the collection and enter your name in the "Friends" section of our website. You are also invited to change the structure or content of the website in order for it to better fit your understanding/ desire of what a museum is/ should be.

Unlike Wikipedia, where the ground for contestation/ confrontation is the notion of what is True, we are yet to discover the possible grounds for confrontation in the Museum.

The 25 Trustees who have made generous contributions to the Museum's collection are:

Nicole Antebi
Igor Baskin
Katie Bush
Pieter Deheijde
